Cycling in Setesdal

Cycling

There are still many roads that are not the shortest or fastest alternatives.

The National cycle routes in Norway form part of the international network of cycle routes, aimed at connecting major cities in a somewhat different way. The roads included in this network offer cultural experiences and historic sites, and in general they follow the least busy roads.

In Setesdal you have the following options:

The Setesdal route, National cycle route No. 3: Kristiansand – Hovden – Haukeli. It starts at the ferry terminal in Kristiansand, meets westbound Route No. 1 to Mandal, before diverting to Dalane in Vennesla. Then it continues to Evje, follows the western shore of the lake Byglandsfjorden to Storestraumen, where it crosses the main road. Then a little to the south until the crossroads to Åraksbø. From here it follows the road to Straume, and on this stretch you will see traditional Setesdal farmyards, green pastures and small rural churches.

Porsgrunn to Stavanger / The Canal route, National cycle route No. 2: Porsgrunn – the Telemark Canal – Dalen – Valle – Stavanger.
